SLPOA - Canada 150 Trees

Post by Sharbot » Sun Apr 16, 2017 10:09 pm

Hi Everyone,

SLPOA has decided to join other nearby lake associations and celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation by planting 150 trees around Sharbot Lake and we need you to join in.

The Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority (MVCA) will be making available 4 varieties of trees (Red Maple, Eastern White Cedar, Black Spruce and White Pine) and 4 varieties of bushes (Red-Osier Dogwood, Nannyberry, Ninebark and American Highbush Cranberry). See the attached pdf file for pictures and descriptions of each. (To view the pdf file you will need to have Adobe Reader. If you don't currently have it, you can download it by clicking here.)Because of a grant from MVCA, we are able to make these trees and bushes available, in pots, for only $5.00 each. The attached picture will give you an idea of the approx. sizes of the plants.

Because there are only 150 trees/bushes available and because some varieties may have limited supply, the following guidelines will apply:
1. You may order up to 5 trees/bushes, however, we will be ensuring everyone who applies gets at least one tree, then we’ll try to
accommodate everyone who wants 2 trees, etc until we’ve distributed the 150 trees/bushes. If supply of one variety runs out, a similar
tree/bush will be substituted.
2. The trees will be available for pick-up the Sunday of the May long weekend (21 May 17) at a location still to be determined. Payment can
be made at pick-up (Cash or cheque).
3. If insufficient numbers of a variety are available in potted form, bare-root plants will be made available (Cost for a bare-root plant would
be $3.00). Bare-root plants will need to be planted soon after acquisition to ensure the plant doesn’t dry out.
4. To request trees/bushes, reply to this e-mail stating how many you want and what varieties (in order of preference).
5. To allow sufficient time to order the trees/bushes, responses must be received by Sunday 30 Apr.

So come on and help celebrate Canada 150, improve the look of your property and provide beneficial erosion control to aid the water quality of Sharbot Lake!
