Thank you to all that assisted in the organization of these two activities as they could not be done without you.
As a social event, the Chicken BBQ was a huge success with many compliments from those that attended. Unfortunately it was not a financial success as we did not get the expected attendance. However the meal was fantastic and the Live Band was so good we had to remove tables to allow for dancing. The Kingmakers (the live band) donated their time to the event and one of the members has a place on the East Basin and our thanks go out to them as they made the night fun for all who attended. The silent auction was enjoyed by all ages thanks to the range of items. We would also like to thank the many individuals who gave SLPOA a donation in support of our efforts. We look forward to seeing you at the next event.
The new location at the St. James Major Church was received well by all that attended. This year we setup tables allowing members to rest their drinks and make note-taking easier. It was also the first year that we were able to use a microphone and speaker ensuring that all could hear. Once again Sharbot Lake Country Inn sponsored the AGM with various food trays which were enjoyed by all.
Within the AGM presentation (attached to this email) we provide a slide showing all of our supporting Sponsors and Advertisers. Please review the businesses that help us and please support them as well. We are sure you will find the information in the presentation informative.
This was an election year and your new executive is:
President: Kevin Browne
Vice President: Ken Waller
Secretary/Treasurer: Joyce Waller
Environmental Issues Coordinator: Position is open - if you are interested please let us know
We wish to thank Rem Westland for all of his help in this role over the last 2 years and wish him the best
Members at Large: Ralph Pentland and Guy MacLeod
Mayor Frances Smith provided an update on many items in our township.
We received an update on the Love your lake Program. East basin property owners received a letter supplying instructions in how to download their FREE report. The Shoreline survey for the West Basin and Elbow Lake was completed this summer and those reports will be available next year.
We had Susan Chan, Project Manager at Farms at Work provide a very informative presentation “Introduction to Pollinators for Cottagers”. The information was fascinating and many people commented on how great the presentation was and how many things they did not know.
A large message from the AGM is that your association needs your help. With every new project that we try to do we need help from the membership. The last project was Love Your Lake and we were able to have wonderful individuals who assisted by driving their boats to the sites with the Watersheds Canada staff. Our next project is a Fish Habitat project for a Walleye Spawning Bed enhancement. We need people to help identify areas for consideration, to take Watersheds Canada staff to these locations and to work with us to implement and complete the project. Presently this project is at risk as we have not been able to get any volunteers.
If you can help please let us know before we cancel the project.
The 2nd Annual Photo Contest was judged and we hope to have the pictures posted on the website before the end of this month. First Prize: Guy MacLeod / Second Prize: Gwen DaCosta / Third Prize: Barb Wilson. Honorable Mention to Ray Caswell and Guy MacLeod. These pictures are provided in the AGM presentation.
We wish everyone a safe and enjoyable summer.
